Moundsvillle, WV. The WVSFA 89th Annual Convention is well underway in Moundsville this week. Local host, McMechen VFD eagerly stepped up and is putting on a well orchestrated event for all fire departments in the State.
Speaker of the House of Delegates Tim Armstead was on hand to help kick off the event, as well as local dignitaries and representatives from Deleware and Maryland Fire Service Associations.
WV Fire Marshal Ken Tyree addressed the crowd, explaing the new module version of Firefighter 1 training and the WVSFMO efforts to being more fire and smoke detectors into the homes of West Virginia.
President John Holstein presented Mark Lambert of the WVU Fire Service Extension a check for $3000.00 to support the Junior Firefighter Camp at Jackson’s Mill. The Junior Firefighter Camp trains and introduces young firefighters to the fire service, including a live burn, simulating an aircraft fuel spill. The WVSFA has historically supported the Camp and plans to continue this support well into the future. Our members feel this is a vital link to recruit and retain a shrinking number of firefighters in our State.
The State Firemen’s Convention continues through Saturday, with new business taking place tomorrow, along with a Memorial Service and a Banquet tomorrow night.
